The gambler

Kṛṣṇa says he is the gambling. Of cheats.

The war in the Mahābhārata began with a rigged game of dice. The Pāṇḍavas lost their kingdom at the board.

So it is startling to find, in chapter ten of the Gītā, a long list of what Kṛṣṇa says he is. From 10.20 to 10.39 he names it: the Self in every heart, the sun among lights, the Ganga among rivers, the Himalaya among all that does not move. And at 10.36, without a pause: of the fraudulent, I am gambling.

The list is not praise of cheating. It is a claim about reach. The verse closes the chapter’s argument at 10.39: nothing that moves or does not move exists without him.

Nothing in the world is outside him. Not even the dice.

Ask the Gītā your own question.

Arjuna asked his. Samvāda answers yours with the Gītā's own verses.

Samvāda is software, an AI companion tuned to the Bhagavad Gītā. It is not a person. It answers from the verse and shows you which one, and it never pretends to be Kṛṣṇa.

Going deeper

Chapter 10 holds a long list of what Kṛṣṇa is, and 10.36 is one line of it. 10.35 has just named the Bṛhatsāman among hymns, the Gāyatrī among metres, Mārgaśīrṣa among months and the season of flowers. Then 10.36 says that of the fraudulent he is gambling, and that he is the brilliance of the brilliant, victory, effort and the magnanimity of the magnanimous. 10.37 moves on to Vāsudeva, Arjuna and Vyāsa. The list is framed at both ends: it starts at 10.20 with the Self in the hearts of all beings, and 10.39 closes the run by calling him the seed of all beings, without which nothing moving or unmoving exists. 10.40 says his manifestations have no limit. So gambling is not praised. It is one of the things the list says he reaches into. Read it in chapter 10, and what the Gītā says about devotion.
