Effective 29 October 2026

This page explains, plainly, what Vāṇi collects, why, and what you can do about it. If a sentence here ever feels evasive, write to us: that is a defect we want to fix.

1. Who we are

Vāṇi (app identifier ai.vani.app) is built and operated as a single, small project. For anything on this page: a question, a correction, a request, write to hello@getvani.app. A person reads that inbox.

2. What we collect

Account identity

When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address as provided by that sign-in method. If you choose Apple's private relay email, we store the relay address: we never see your real one unless you choose to share it separately.

If you sign in with Apple, we store Apple's refresh token, encrypted, only so that we can revoke it. Deleting your account revokes it through Apple and removes it.

What you write to Vāṇi

Messages you send in Samvāda are stored so the conversation can continue coherently and so you can return to it later. See section 4 for exactly how these are processed.

Your practice records

If you keep a vow, mark a day, or use the counting practices, we store that record so it is there the next time you open the app. This exists to serve you, not to score you: nothing here is shared, ranked, or shown to anyone else.

Device-level preferences

Basic settings are stored so the app remembers how you like it: your chosen theme, language and notification preferences.

Location

Kāla can use your device's location to work out sunrise and the day's panchang. Vāṇi rounds your location to about ten kilometres before it leaves your phone, keeps the rounded location on your phone for no more than thirty minutes, and never stores it with your account. You can decline; the room still works.

Reflections you share in Samāj

When you share a reflection in Samāj, it shows your first name and the city it was shared from. The city comes from your internet connection, not your device's location, and it is stored with the reflection and linked to your account. Some reflections on the wall are written by Vāṇi. If a reflection is reported, we review it and remove it. You can hide anyone's reflections, and show them again, in Sva Dvāra under Hidden voices.

This website

On getvani.app we use PostHog to count visits: which pages are viewed, and the approximate location your connection suggests. It keeps no identifier in your browser once you close the tab, so separate visits are not linked to you.

3. Who processes this, and why

We keep the number of outside parties small, and each one has exactly one job:

FunctionProviderWhat they handle
Accounts & databaseSupabaseStores your account record, conversations, and practice data securely.
PurchasesApple App Store, with RevenueCat for entitlement managementProcesses payment and tells our systems what you're entitled to. Your card details never reach our servers: Apple handles payment directly.
Samvāda responsesA third-party AI processing providerReceives the text of your Samvāda conversation to generate a reply grounded in the Bhagavad Gītā.
AnalyticsPostHogTells us, in aggregate, which parts of the app are used, never the content of what you write.
Error monitoringSentryAlerts us automatically when something breaks, so it can be fixed.

We do not name the AI provider here because that relationship is a processing arrangement, not an endorsement: the point that matters to you is what happens to your words, covered next.

4. The Samvāda honesty clause

When you write to Vāṇi in Samvāda, that text is sent to a third-party AI processing provider to generate a response grounded in the Bhagavad Gītā. This is the only way the feature can work: we do not have our own model.

We do not sell your data, to anyone, for any reason. We do not use your conversations for advertising, and we show no advertising in the app at all, on any plan. Your words are used to answer you, not to build a profile of you for anyone else's benefit.

5. Crisis-support features

If Vāṇi detects that you may be in danger, the features that respond to that are free, permanently, on every plan: this is never gated behind payment.

Crisis detection happens on your device. When Vāṇi shows a helpline, the country your connection appears to come from decides which one. We record which helpline was shown and in which country, never who saw it.

6. What Vāṇi remembers

Vāṇi may keep short notes drawn from your conversations, so it can meet you where you left off. You can read, remove or switch off these notes in Sva Dvāra at any time. Clearing your Samvāda history clears them too, and deleting your account deletes them.

7. Keeping and deleting your data

When you delete a conversation or your account, the data is removed from our live systems immediately: not flagged, not hidden, not archived. Deleting your account also removes everything attached to it: your account and sign-in record, your Samvāda conversations and the notes Vāṇi kept, your reflections and diyas, the reports you made and your hidden-voices list, your bookmarks, your journal entries, your walks and Arjuna Mode responses, your practice records, sankalpa and totals, your preferences, your membership records, and your Apple sign-in token. Deleting your account also asks our analytics provider to delete the usage events tied to it. We keep an occasional offline copy of our database so we can recover from mistakes. Each copy is encrypted and deleted within fourteen days, so anything you delete is gone from every copy within fourteen days. If you signed in with Apple, deleting your account also revokes Vāṇi's Sign in with Apple authorisation.

Two things you should know about. If a reflection was flagged for review, the copy sent to us remains in our support inbox at support@getvani.app. And aggregate usage counts remain in our analytics: which features are used, never the content of what you write.

8. Your rights

You can ask to see, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you at any time: write to hello@getvani.app and we will act on it.

If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, you have rights under the GDPR, including access, correction, deletion, portability, and objection to processing. We are the data controller for the information described above.

If you are a California resident, you have rights under the CCPA, including the right to know what personal information is collected and to request its deletion. We do not sell personal information, as defined by that law.

If you are in Australia, we handle your information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988, including your right to access and correct your information.

9. Children

Vāṇi is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age where you live), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children below that age.

10. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the effective date above and, where the change is significant, tell you inside the app.

For the full agreement governing your use of Vāṇi, see our Terms of Use.
